In 2019, as part of the Loudoun County Public Schools’ initiative to increase racial, ethnic, and cultural diversity in classroom literature, hundreds of books were purchased for the Diverse Classroom Libraries.

Concerned parents raised the alarm in early September that many books incorporated LGBTQ themes in grades as early as Kindergarten including the promotion of Queer Theory concepts, as well as sexually inappropriate and even explicit language in other grades including excessive profanity and frequent descriptions of underage drinking, fondling, masturbation, orgasms, oral sex, sexual intercourse, sexual abuse, statutory rape, incest, and rape.

In response to parents’ questions and concerns, LCPS posted FAQs on their website and provided the rubric used to select the books: CLICK HERE FOR PDF. Information gathering is ongoing.

To challenge the placement of these books in classrooms (and libraries), parents must complete THIS FORM for each book and return it to the principal of their child’s school.

Parent and Child Loudoun conducted an assessment of these books to provide insights to parents of the objectionable content. Titles that are underlined are hyperlinked to excerpts or for the younger grades a YouTube video of the book being read aloud.
